The "Presidential" or "Turkey" Oyster Plate

The very popular "Presidental" or "Turkey" oyster plate design by Haviland and Co., circa 1880. The presidental and turkey labels were not synonyms but rather the former derived from this style of plate that Rutherford B. Hayes had selected for the whitehouse and the turkey name from the arrangement of the darker mussel shells in the back of the five wells. To see some hand painted detail click here.
