The Pacific County Board of Commissioners is the county’s legislative body. The Board consists of three commissioners who serve as the chief administrators for the Department of Public Works, the Department of Community Development, the Public Health & Human Services Department, as well as other services and programs which are not clearly the responsibility of another elected county official. The Commissioners' primary duty is to levy the taxes that operate the county and to adopt a balanced budget for each calendar year.

Also within their legislative authority capacity, the Commissioners are responsible for adopting, amending and repealing all county ordinances, which are essentially laws of the county. These include traffic, zoning, planning and public safety ordinances, and any other ordinance concerning the general welfare of the county.

In their judicial capacity, the Commissioners are often called upon to act as an appeal board to sit in judgment of decisions made by other county officials.
