Configuring ConfigPPP

To configure the MacPPP to dial up and establish a connection, you use a program called ConfigPPP. To start ConfigPPP, click on the Apple menu, choose Control Panels, and click on ConfigPPP.

This is the opening screen for ConfigPPP. This is the screen that you would use to establish a connection (click "Open") or disconnect (click "Soft Close" or "Hard Close").

However, ConfigPPP is not properly set up when it is first started, so to begin setting up, click on the "Config..." button at the bottom.

This is the main configuration window for ConfigPPP. Most of the information show is what you are going to want to fill in for your configuration as well. The exeptions are:
  • Port Speed: Choose a Port Speed that is supported by your modem (e.g. 33.6 kbps and 28.8 kbps modems use 57600, 14.4 kbps modems use 38400, 9600 bps modems use 9600, etc.)
  • Phone Number: Depends on your location. In any case, put a "*70," (including the comma but don't use the quotes) before the phone number if you have Call Waiting on the same phone line that your computer is using:

Raymond 942-5444
Ilwaco 642-5444
Naselle 484-4638

configppp3.gif (2696 bytes) Once you have complete filling out the main configuration screen shown above, click on the "Authentication..." button at the bottom. This brings you to the Autentication screen.

Enter you username for "Auth. ID:" and your password for "Password:".

Please Note: When asking for your username, enter just your username, not your entire email address.

One the Autentication screen click "OK", and on the main configuration screen, click "Done". This brings you back to the original ConfigPPP screen where you can click Open to connect or Close (either the Soft Close or the Hard Close) to disconnect. This is assuming, of course, you have already configured MacTCP.
